What is the Structure of Prince2?
The Prince2 structure is comprised of four integrated elements namely principles, themes, processes and project environment.
Prince2 Principles – There are seven principles in all and a Prince2 project requires all of them to be applied.
- Continued business justification – A justifiable reason is required to run a project.
- Learn from experience – Analyse and learn from past experiences.
- Defined roles and responsibilities – Involvement of right people in the right task is a must.
- Manage by stages – Projects must be handled on a stage-by-stage basis.
- Manage by exception – Adequate responsibilities must be assigned for efficient work.
- Focus on products – Projects must focus on the product definition, delivery and quality requirements.
- Tailor to suit the project environment – Projects must be customized to suit their environment, size, complexity, importance, capability and risk.
Prince2 Practices – The project must be managed based on these seven practices. They are set up at the beginning of a project and looked after throughout.
- Business case – Recording business justification for a project.
- Organizing – Defining roles and responsibilities of individuals within a project.
- Quality – Defining the quality requirements and standards.
- Plans – Identifying the techniques and methods that must be used.
- Risk – Figuring out the risks that may affect the project.
- Issues – Assessing and acting on changes to the project.
- Progress – Analysing how the project should proceed further.
Prince2 Processes – Prince2 projects run on seven processes:
